The Virginia Department of Social Services will issue a one-time $120 food benefit through
Virginia SUN Bucks beginning August 2024 to children who qualify. Children qualify and are
automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or an income-based Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid). If you are not enrolled in SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid you can apply and potentially qualify for Virginia SUN Bucks by visiting VirginiaSunBucks.com and mailing the application to:

Applications will not be available until July 1, when the webpage goes live. The Application for SUN Bucks will require you to enter your child’s “Local Student ID Number.”
Contact the school your child attends to get this number. If you qualify, SUN Bucks benefits will be distributed beginning August 2024 on a rolling basis and will be loaded onto your current SNAP EBT Card or a Virginia SUN Bucks card.
The Tyler Giles Junior Youth Golf Day at Lonesome Pine Country Club will be held on July 30th! Free Golf Lessons, Free T-Shirts, Free Food, Free Golf and Give Aways for Junior Golfers (17 and under) starting at 9 a.m. Clubs will be provided to those who need them! Please contact Lonesome Pine Country Club (276-523-0739) to sign up.

FREE Sports Physicals
CHS is partnering with The Health Wagon & Ballad Health to provide FREE sports physicals for upcoming students grades 6 - 12 that will be participating in Central High School athletics for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
All student-athletes are required to have a sports physical form completed by a parent/guardian before getting the physical. Physicals will be given on the following dates at these locations:
JW Adams: Thursday, May 9 (9:00AM - 3:00PM)
- Sign up in the main office with Mr. Wilson
LF Addington: Monday, May 13 (9:00AM - 3:00PM)
- Sign up with Mrs. Holly Tucker
Central High School: Tuesday, May 14 (9:00AM - 3:00PM)
- Sign up in the CHS main office

Code 2 is our 2-Hour Delay Schedule for students.

In anticipation of virtual learning days due to inclement weather, the Food Services Program will be sending home with students 2 days of meals, including 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
This does not mean virtual learning is scheduled.
Wise County Public Schools will be CLOSED on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
There will be no virtual instruction.
Wise County Public Schools will operate on a CODE 0 on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Code 0 means schools are CLOSED and there is no virtual learning.

Our Code 3 schedule is a virtual learning day for students.
Wise County Public Schools, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Department of Education, is conducting the Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions. We will survey students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, as well as classroom instructors and staff, beginning in January 2024. The purpose of the student survey is to measure student support, student engagement, school discipline, and safety conditions in each school. This information will be used to guide educational practices that produce a safe and supportive school environment. For more information regarding this process, please follow the link below:

The Virginia Department of Education has asked us to share this notification!
This evening, Monday, November 20, at 6:30 pm, the Virginia Board of Education is hosting a listening session to give parents, educators, and community members the opportunity to learn more about the Board’s creation of new accountability measurements for Virginia’s public schools, as well as provide an opportunity for the public to discuss their expectations for the upcoming accountability measurements.
This will be the first chance for Southwest Virginians to weigh in on the issue, and I encourage you to share this information with your parents, educators and stakeholders in your area.
