History

ST. PAUL ELEMENTARY SERVES AN AREA THAT ONCE INCLUDED THE FEEDER SCHOOLS OF HONEY BRANCH, DWINA, VIRGINIA CITY, BULL RUN, DRY FORK, AND BULL HILL. ALL OF THESE SCHOOL HAVE LONG BEEN CLOSED AND THE STUDENTS FROM THESE AREA ARE BUSED TO THE ST. PAUL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

IN 1923 A NEW SCHOOL WAS BUILT IN ST. PAUL AND HOUSED BOTH ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL WAS BUILT IN 1974, LEAVING THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE ORIGINAL BUILDING. IN 1991, THE ORIGINAL BUILDING WAS REPLACEd WITH A NEW MODERN FACILITY HOUSING PRE-K THROUGH SEVENTH GRADE.

IN 2011 ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL AND COEBURN HIGH SCHOOL CONSOLIDATED TO BECOME EASTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL LEAVING ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED. STUDENTS IN EIGHTH GRADED MOVED TO ST. PAUL ELEMENTARY AND STUDENTS IN GRADES NINE THROUGH TWELVE WENT TO EASTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL IN COEBURN. IN 2018, ST. PAUL ELEMENTARY OUTGREW THEIR BUILDING. STUDENTS IN SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADES WERE MOVED TO THE OLD ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL. TODAY, THE OLD ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL IS NOW ST. PAUL MIDDLE SCHOOL HOUSING STUDENTS IN GRADES FIVE THROUGH EIGHT.

SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

THE PURPOSE OF ST. PAUL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AS IT WORKS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE VIRGINIA STANDARDS OF QUALITY, IS TO MEET THE MENTAL, PHYSICAL, SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT. EACH STUDENT WILL BE PREPARED TO SUCCEED AS A CHILD AND AN ADULT

OBJECTIVES

TO PROMOTE THE INTELLECTUAL, PERSONAL, SOCIAL, PHYSICAL AND AESTHETIC DEVELOPMENT OF EACH STUDENT.TO OFFER AN ACCELERATED/ENRICHED/CONCENTRATED/SPECIALIZED CURRICULUM TO INSURE THE SUCCESS OF EACH STUDENT IN ACADEMIC AND TALENT-RELATED AREAS.TO ESTABLISH A CLIMATE CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING BY USING A VARIETY OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES TO INTEREST AND MOTIVATE STUDENTS.

TO PROVIDE A SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL CLIMATE IN WHICH EACH CHILD WILL RELATE TO AND HAVE RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.TO TEACH STUDENTS TO DEVELOP A POSITIVE AND REALISTIC CONCEPT OF SELF AND OTHERS.

MISSION

THE MISSION OF ST. PAUL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS TO PREPARE EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT TO BE A PRODUCTIVE CITIZEN, TO BE AN INFORMED RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKER, AND TO BE A LIFELONG LEARNER.
