As this year winds down, you may be finding yourself looking for last-minute activities for your students before winter break. Enter the Virginia Lottery’s Thank a Teacher Art Contest! We’re looking for student artwork to grace our 2025 Thank a Teacher thank-you notes that will be distributed to hundreds of thousands of public school teachers across the state during National Teacher Appreciation week in May. |
There is no theme for the Art Contest, but students are encouraged to create art that expresses their gratitude for Virginia’s K-12 public school teachers. The Lottery will accept submissions online at through February 3, 2025. One winner will be selected at each of three levels: elementary, middle and high school. The school that each winner attends will receive $2,000 from The Supply Room. The winning artists will receive a $200 Visa® gift card in addition to having their original artwork featured on thank-you notes distributed across Virginia. The Art Contest is a great in-class activity in the days leading up to winter break or as a take-home assignment over the vacation. |
By law, 100% of Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 public education in Virginia. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery generated more than $934 million in profits, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget. |
