HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS
Full-time employees are eligible for Health Insurance on the first day of the month coincident with or next following the date they begin employment. Coverage includes medical, prescription drug, mental health and substance abuse, and dental benefits.
Employees can elect single coverage or a policy that provides coverage for eligible dependents.
LIFE INSURANCE
Basic group life insurance is automatically provided upon employment through Minnesota Life and is paid 100% by the Wise County School Board. This coverage would provide your beneficiaries with a single sum benefit of:
2 times your annual salary in the event of natural death 4 times your annual salary in the event of accidental death Additional insurance may be purchased for employees and their dependents through an optional group life insurance plan.
SICK LEAVE PLAN
All contracted staff can earn up to 12 days sick leave per year. These days are accrued one per month worked with a minimum of 10 days earned per contract period. Unused days are accumulated for future use.
PERSONAL LEAVE
Full-time professional and all 12-month contracted employees can earn up to three (3) days personal leave per year, which may be accumulated to a maximum of five (5) days. Any days accumulated above five (5) will roll-over into sick leave.
RETIREMENT
Full-time, contracted employees are automatically enrolled in a defined-benefit retirement program administered by the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).
For active employees or those with service before July 1, 2010., employees are considered in Plan 1.
Highlights of the program include:
Vested member of the system after 5 years of service
Disability and death benefits provided
Annual cost-of-living adjustments to retirement benefits
Full retirement benefits at 30 years of service and at least 50 years old,or age 65 with 5 or more years of service, hired before July 1, 2010, you are in the VRS Plan 1.
Early retirement reduced benefits are available at age 50 with at least10 years of service or age 55 with 5 or more years of service.
For active employees with service after July 1, 2010., employees are considered in Plan 2.
Highlights of the program include:
Full retirement benefits, when you reach your normal Social Security retirement and have at least five years of service credit or when your age and service equal 90. An example is age 60 with 30 years of service credit.
You become eligible for a reduced retirement benefit at age 60 with at least five years of service credit.
VACATION AND HOLIDAYS
Twelve-month employees can earn up to ten (10) days paid vacation per year for 1-10 years of service, twelve (12) days for 11-12 years of service; fourteen (14) days for 13-15 years of service; and sixteen (16) days for 16+ years of service.
Holidays are provided each year in accordance with the adopted school calendar.
