Good morning. This is a reminder that today, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, is a half day for Wise County Public School students.
Yesterday afternoon Union Middle School Administration became aware that a student could have used a very poor choice of words at school. We found out that student used words that are NEVER acceptable in our school no matter the manner in which they are used, or their intention.
Administration took this very seriously and worked with the Wise County Sheriffs Office to resolve the issue.
UMS thanks the WCSO and our SRO Honeycutt for their diligent work. The safety of our students is our primary concern and we treat everything seriously and the situation has been safely resolved.
This is IMPORTANT - the last day of sign ups for the future bear girls basketball league is NOW TOMORROW. Sign ups are from 4-6 in the UMS gym hallway. The league is for any 2nd-7th grader that attends Union. The draft will take place at 6:30 TOMORROW after sign ups. New players need to attend the draft.
Union area schools will dismiss today, Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 1pm due to a major water leak in the area. This only affects Union Primary, Union Middle, and Union High Schools.

Hello UMS! It's hard to believe this but Monday is 5th grade orientation at 5PM .
We will have a short meeting all together in the cafeteria and then students will go with their homeroom teachers.

Hello UMS and Happy Friday. Just a reminder to everyone, as we move from Remind to ROOMS for communication that you must get the Wise County Public Schools app in the app store. Teachers will send home "Magic codes" in the first two days of school.
It is easy to use but it is different. Make sure that you enable alerts when you download the app also because that is how ROOMS works.

The Virginia Department of Social Services will issue a one-time $120 food benefit through
Virginia SUN Bucks beginning August 2024 to children who qualify. Children qualify and are
automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or an income-based Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid). If you are not enrolled in SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid you can apply and potentially qualify for Virginia SUN Bucks by visiting VirginiaSunBucks.com and mailing the application to:

Applications will not be available until July 1, when the webpage goes live. The Application for SUN Bucks will require you to enter your child’s “Local Student ID Number.”
Contact the school your child attends to get this number. If you qualify, SUN Bucks benefits will be distributed beginning August 2024 on a rolling basis and will be loaded onto your current SNAP EBT Card or a Virginia SUN Bucks card.
The Tyler Giles Junior Youth Golf Day at Lonesome Pine Country Club will be held on July 30th! Free Golf Lessons, Free T-Shirts, Free Food, Free Golf and Give Aways for Junior Golfers (17 and under) starting at 9 a.m. Clubs will be provided to those who need them! Parents, the Health Department is having a vaccination clinic at UMS on August 7th from 4-6pm. This coincides with our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade back-to-school night. This will be up on the stage in the cafeteria.
Good morning! From Ms. Sturgill = The first marching band practice of the season will be held on Tuesday, July 2 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Union High School Band room. This practice is for all new and returning students interested in participating in the upcoming season. No experience necessary.
